recap

a computer post!  (i.e. not a phone post!)  but not from the new house either.  yes, the internet company pushed the magic button and it all turned on without a hitch, but that was sometime yesterday when we were in copenhagen, and then late last night we scurried around a bit after getting home to get things ready for today when we left for sweden.  and so now here i am posting from sweden.  the north sea side of things.  you've seen the baltic... we've seen the baltic.  it's time now for the other sea shared with our northeastern neighbor.

but bear with me, as it is late and i am in a dark room with three sleepers... i think i will show you some of the last few days (weeks?) in pictures...

some large, some small, because of a camera setting misshap.

in roughly chronological order...

first, a quick goodbye to the old house... farewell.

next, an official one and a half year old...

legos before school...

picking cherries after danish lessons...

a couple more views of the new place.  our room...

lines...

guest room.  a keen eye will spot some similarities... actually, it would take a keener eye to spot the differences between rooms...

the small-cousins-lined-up-in-a-row-according-to-height shot... (at lejre)

the napping-in-the-wagon shot...

family...

one up, one down...

two up, none down...

canopy...

at lejre...

power washing the house...

and... taking advantage of being in charge of the ultimate in water squirting capabilities...

in copenhagen...
city hall...

canal tour...

i like this next one only because of what it implies william is about to say, and henry looks like he might climb out of the boat, and i look resigned to all of it...

back on dry land...

governance-ing here...

library fountain...

tivoli...

in sweden...

398 cyclers by the time i passed by at 3:00 today...

drip castles and moats at the north sea...

and a waking baby means i need to end this post now.  more from sweden tomorrow.  goodnight!

hi again

oh blog... i miss you. greg says it feels like we haven't done anything eventful when you're not there to account for things. i miss you, but even more i miss being able to type a post out on a real computer, to see what i'm typing, to have my fingers keep up with my thoughts.  which should all rematerialize tomorrow when they push the magic button to bring this house into the 21st century.

but of course that's not the only event going on these past few days that i've neglected my blogging duties.  like how i jabbed my finger with one of our new and ultra piercing ikea knives. it's funny how when you have a new knife you're more likely to do that, just because the weight's different, and how when you're in a new kitchen you temporarily forget how to cook. that happened too. i barely threw a mushpot davy together the other night, as if with a blindfold on.  it could have just as easily turned into a mushpot disaster.

and also meeting judy (hi judy, if you're reading this) an american living in america now, but who lived in roskilde for a year with husband and two kids. visiting for two weeks. and who brought me three recent newspapers that i was so excited to hold in my hands and read that i stayed up one night doing just that instead of staying up to blog about how i'd met judy and she'd brought me three newspapers and how excited i was to read them.

and of course the news that we are officially the keepers of house guests for one week! greg's aunt, and his cousin and his wife who traveled here via norway and iceland with ... are you ready for their daringness... their two year old!  you have to commend that type of crazy adventurousness.

i'll post pictures, maybe tomorrow, and tell of our wanderings.  tonight i'll just be happy to have done another, and hopefully final, phone post.

excuses

cleaned the guest room.  now it is ready for a new coat of paint and some assembly. i'm trying not to have hard feelings for the guy who lived here before us, non-cleaner that he was, and i can't even say it is entirely his fault. it's the way this house was constructed. there are countless small, useless spaces meant for letting dust and dirt in, and for keeping rags out.  but the floors... maybe he could've done something about these before he left, or at any point while living here.  i say maybe because maybe he has a really good excuse.

another post, typed out on a telephone.  our internet equipment arrived today, but still, next week before they push the magic button and turn it on.  i likely won't have time to take my computer to a coffee shop, so i envision short posts for now.

bye!

data

writing from my phone. i have no idea how data works, so this could be a very expensive post. i thought i'd post a post a picture but that proved to take up more time than i was willing to spend.

in a quiet house now. looking over my danish class outline, sort of.  it will be my first day back to class after a long break. we have a practice exam today... our first one-- real or fake.

our first weekend in the house worked.
we got food on the table and ate outside last night because it felt kind of like summer.  but when i look outside and see apples (not many) beginning to ripen on our tree, and i see kids returning to school this morning, i don't have the usual sense of relief, welcoming, and acceptance that fall is on its way and the intensity (in the sense of temperature) of summer is on its way out, because although it's been a pleasant summer, on the whole,  there have been less than a handful of times that we've said out loud that it's hot. summer doesn't get to flex its muscle here. you don't say 'enough already.'

well, i shoild put some paragraphs into this thing and post. the internet company says they won't be out here until the 20th. you can do everything instantly these days-- except, apparently, get internet service.

nuptials and housewarming

sitting on my old back porch, waiting for my mom's wedding to start.

in no particular order, some quick pictures of the new house... after the mad dash to get it in a semi-state of livability for the guys...

w & h's room...

messy, messy... it's cleaner now...

clean, clean... it's messier now...

moving

i mopped myself into a corner, so i'm taking a break to blog.  maybe the last post for a bit as we don't have internet at our new house yet and this house is no longer ours as of 7:15 tomorrow morning.  we spent the day bringing the rest of our things over (though our fridge here is still full).  also cleaning.  our things from the thrift store were to be delivered today sometime after noon.  around 11 greg happened to be over at the new house, dropping things off and looking, unsuccessfully, for some rags i wanted.  i happened to walk outside this house just as a delivery truck, driven by a woman, drove slowly past our parking lot, with her head turned, as if anticipating a side street.  i figured this was our stuff (and it was) so i rode over.  fortunately.  although i suppose she would have helped greg get the furniture near the front door if i hadn't come to help carry things.  i think we bought the heaviest dining room table ever to be made, but we love it.  it was our one splurge (and still we spent less than a thousand on that, plus two couches, 6 chairs, two nightstands (which didn't make it into the truck somehow), two or three rugs, a wool blanket, some wall art, a tricycle, royal copenhagen plates, some glasses, mugs, silverware, candle holders, and sidewalk chalk).

after the furniture, we went back and continued working on the other house until early afternoon when we went back over and spent about an hour putting william and henry's room together, moving couches and rugs around to make the place look livable and exciting for the guys.  i took pictures but left that camera over at the non-internet house so they will have to wait for another post.

now i'm back over here, finishing up.  waiting to skype with family. plotting how i will find an internet connection at 11 o'clock tomorrow night to see my mom get married thousands of miles away.

the floor is dry enough now that i don't have an excuse to keep blogging.

until tomorrow, or the next day, or the next.  or the one after that.

the fridge can be deceiving

at 7:30 i wanted to get into bed and fall asleep.  but at that point, there weren't even sleeping children.  and now it's confirmed that we really do need to be out of here on saturday.  that information has given me my second wind, so this will be fast and then i'll start working again.

we spent the morning at the thrift store purchasing furniture, dishes, a couple wall hangings, more rugs, and other bits and pieces.  in the afternoon, i was cleaning the fridge and found food inside it.

now this fridge has been opened up by us many times, presumably opened by the realtor and anyone else who looked at renting the house, and, of course, was emptied by the last tenant.  and yet that food wasn't found until today.  hidden behind a shelf, it looked a bit like summer sausage and possibly something else, but it landed in the garbage faster than we could do even a cursory inspection.

that was today's fun.  we're planning to start sleeping over there tomorrow.  we ordered internet the other day but who knows how many months it will take for actual installation.

okay, more tomorrow.
