signs

this morning henry picked out his party outfit...
yes, those are beads on the sleeves

for a school friend's birthday party...

william was at art class so both greg and i brought him over.  as soon as he had his shoes off and a quick look around he whispered in my ear that i could leave.  he's watched his brother go to many parties and so far has only had one or two for himself, so it was a big deal for the little man.

after william's art class, i picked him up and we rode to the train station and took the train into copenhagen for a pro-refugee rally (with 29,998 other people, give or take).

at the main station in copenhagen right now, there is a large cordoned off section full of clothing, food, and other supplies for refugees traveling through.

at the rally...
SF: socialist people's party: refugees welcome

freedom of movement

this little man-- he was a good sport but didn't have much staying power in a tightly-packed crowd, listening to speeches...

"they don't cross borders without a reason. help refugees."
we didn't stay very long. that was okay.  it wasn't easy for me to understand most of the speeches and i could only hold william up (which made it slightly more interesting for him) for a few minutes.

after, we stopped at this little pool for william to try out his balancing skills...

he was not the only one...

and then we headed back to the train station and back home...

a happy bench in a closed courtyard.

where henry was back from his party...

Good for you for going to the rally. The stories of those who leave their war-torn homeland are heartbreaking. Europe (and beyond) needs to unite on the issue of providing a safe haven. I can't help but think that the countries who open their doors will be amply rewarded in future decades.

Most of these people are not refugees, they are emigrants .
Most of these people came from a safe place/country ,namely Turkey.
Using your children as hostages when you arrive to a very safe place like Denmark ,and demanding not being registered is just disgusting.
Even Sweden is not “safe" enough now for a lot of them.
