in the dark

we really need to get this darkness thing down... here we were again today, going to the park at four o'clock, going down slides and pushing swings like it was just another summer day...

prior to this, aside from a trip to the grocery store, it was another easy day of lots of playing... the kind of days i assumed william would want to have after christmas, where you can just sort of get to know your new toys... the reason we decided to go to germany before christmas, rather than after (with the added bonus of the christmas markets).

it was a push to get him to leave his toys and go out to the park, but i think he didn't mind it once he was out.  even if it did require enjoying a dark playground...

after we got home we put together one of william's presents from his 'up north' grandparents, because we had batteries to do it, now that the stores were opened up once again...

and later, the demand for cookies still strong, more cookies were made...

finally, two little boys in bed, readying themselves for copenhagen tomorrow.

Now I understand why my daughters showed no inclination toward engineering (even though, arguably, at least one has the talent for it). William's toy says it all.

It's cool that your kids love their toys. And that you would go to a playground in the dark of the afternoon. In the winter. Is the snow still there or have you gone above freezing at all? We're stuck now in the deep chill -- more snow expected Friday. Which, at this point in the winter, is still delightfully pretty.

hi nina,

have you heard about the woman (an engineer) who is designing engineering toys specifically for girls?

our snow is all gone now. it's frequently above freezing these days, but also dips below. today we had a very rare sunny day.
