walking the plank

you'll notice a complete absence of william in the pictures today.  his two neighborhood best friends were both home today after vacations during the easter break, and he was out running around with them from mid-morning till bedtime.  he did come in with one of his friends just as dinner was about to start, asking for lunch.  (i happen to know someone took pity on him around lunchtime and fed him. though of course he might have come home, as his own family would have taken pity on him too and made him a sandwich. and he did stay home long enough to have dinner with us.)

today was the last day of easter break.  i believe today is called 'easter day two'.  it seemed to be the day everyone came home from their trips to see family or semi-distant lands.  and it was a beautiful day to come back to.  everyone was outside on this day off.

henry and i spent some time jumping on the trampoline...
one sock on and one sock off.  diddle diddle dumpling, my son henry.

and digging in the pebbles...

later, after lunch, the three of us (as one of the four of us turned down the invitation) went on a walk.

first to the 'balance bridge', which i knew nothing about, but which greg had taken the boys to at some point in the fall...

when apparently it was just a metal frame, so it was really the balance bridge at that point.

but today had its own balancing component...

where you might notice that henry felt it necessary to cross more than once.  when he started jumping up and down on the wobbly planks, well, i might as well have just kicked up my feet and had a margarita i was so untroubled...

at some point we found a rather nice wooden bench that looked out onto... a flat field...

so we sat there for awhile and watched the field while henry picked tiny flowers and gave them haircuts, which meant he pulled off all their petals.

and walked back home...

and here you get my magnificent zoom again, just so i can show you the horns on this fella...

tomorrow... back to reality.
