pb&j on rye

this is what greg woke to this morning...

me... i got dressed quickly, made oats, and then ten peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.

we've talked a lot about food in class lately, so we decided to have a potluck where each person brings food from her "homeland."  i figured peanut butter and jelly was about as american as it gets.  also, it was easier to make than meatloaf.  it did feel sort of... mmm... lame.  that's the word that kept going through my head as i settled on peanut butter and jelly.  like i was letting america down a little bit.  sorry america.   also a little... like the cabbage soup trick... cruel.  because everyone in my class who i told ahead of time, acted dubious, even a little worried.  that i was going to force them to try something that sounded so... strange... gross... what have you.  before arriving in denmark it never would have dawned on me that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were an acquired taste.

so how did it go?  well, i'm happy to report that my sandwiches won over the hearts of the my ukrainian, polish, and south korean classmates.  i can't say for sure whether anyone else was a fan, though everyone else at least tried, if not finished their half-sandwich, except for my danish teacher, who politely took a half, and then surreptitiously left it on the table untouched before leaving to teach her next class.  eh.  oh well.  3 out of 9 isn't bad when we're dealing with peanut butter outside of the u.s.

other news? not much.  leftover cabbage soup for dinner.  rain in the afternoon and into the evening.  greg is back from his retreat.  and it is friday!

happy weekend!

I love my pb&j every lunch day of my life. (Sometimes I 'make do' with almond&j.) You send the detractors my way. I'll straighten them out.

for awhile, before we moved here, i was eating almond butter instead of peanut butter, but they don't have it here, so i've gotten used to peanut butter again, and can hardly imagine enjoying almond butter like i used to.
